It was all to do with cars being registered into the country, on or after 1 march (2001) were based on co2 emmisions and fuel type/// on or after 23 march (2001) were based on co2 emmisions over 22g/km and fuel type so there for should be subject to the higher tax band of circa £400 P.S if i am wrong Sorry,:(

Is there no way around it apart from buying a uk registered car then?

Not sure like i said in another post try and source out a well maintained car from a private seller that will be well look after and allready had all the bells and whistles on it, so should save you dosh should you want to modify it in the future, also check what tax the seller is paying at the moment and it should just be staying the same,,, ;),

Cheers Further research required then ;) this is the reason i gave the R32 up was the threat of the higher tax banding
