hks ssqv- question

i have the first version hks ssqv. My car has stalled only a couple of times once i put on the clutch. i played around with the adjustment screw on the bov and i havent stalled as of yet but i notice, mainly coming out of second gear, that the revs ALMOST drop to 0 but quickly shoot back up to 1k.

ive curious as to how far i need to screw the adjustment screw in or if its the bov causing the issue at all. plus im hoping that by screwing it in further, i can get it to whoosh less when below 3k revs.

any suggestions most welcome. thanks.

It would seem that you have formed the correct opinion on what needs to be done.

I suspect that you have a leak somewhere so you may want to inspect all the vacuum pipes etc. to eliminate them.

If that is not the case then the issue is with the dump valve itself which is common on the VTA's.

I suggest that you PM Sponners, he is well into the dump valves and will be able to better advise you, he also provides pictures which is a great help indeed!!!

to the OP, you are on the right lines of thinking, the more you adjust the screw in on the rear the less it will dump so in turn the less it dumps means the less stalling issues you will have.

dont worry as you can wind it all the way in if you need to, it wont damage anything.

There a few things which are tied down but mainly the vacuum pipe.

I'm talking about what looks like blue tissue paper or cloth that is cable tied to the pipe just before the BOV.

It's ok, I just figured it out:

It is a home made heat shield designed to keep the heat off the hard pipe!!!

You may want to do something about that like getting some heat resistant/repellent wrap and wrapping it around that small section of the radiator hose.

Is that pipe slit with a botch up to repair it or is it as I suspected.....just a home made heat wrap???

Take it for a steam clean, it may perk up a little bit.

I checked to see it was a botch up repair job but seems ok. Theres a sleeve that goes over the smaller pipe then you have the masking tape then the blue cloth. Not sure why the tape is there though.

Will get a steam clean done tomorrow. I think the local Albanian brothers do it for £35. Do they need to disconnect the battery as well?

They will know what to do. Just make sure that they cover the mushroom properly.

only issue with that is that people buy VTA valves as they like the noise, if you fit a recirc the noise will be lost.

The forge have both recirc/atmospheric in their dump valves dont they? I take it they wouldnt be as loud as the HKS though

The thing with the HKS SSQV's is that they have a different doosh compared to the other brands. All Dump Valves have different venting characteristics or should I say acoustics

You can get split R's which send half the pressure into the atmosphere and re-circulate the rest. Not allot of people bother with these but then, not allot of people know about them.
