I am toying with the idea of buying an Evo IV to replace my Nissan Skyline. I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some pointers of what I should be looking for.

I am currently looking at a P reg one which i have taken for a test drive. I am very interested in it.

Any advice would be welcome

the 5 has a better engine in it, which is vital if you want to mod it as the 4 suffers from crank walk, so imo go for a 5

5s are slightly improved ie Brembo brakes and can handle abit more power standard,but still plenty of nice 4s around.

the 4s aint bad for the money tbf only problems as ive said is the crank walk, the ECU is not mappable so a 5 onwards ecu is needed to be fitted, and a safe power level is 1.3 bar which is about 330bhp, where as the 5 you could see 1.6bar and possibly 380bhp, to sum it up in short

this one has Brembo brakes already fitted, a evo9 turbo and injectors with a front mounted inter cooler, remapped with a Greddy boost controller so not, to be honest, looking to do any more mods.
TBH I have gone as far as I can tuning the skyline now I fancy something different without adding more than necessary.

**** you all! The iv rules apart from:

Ecu cant be mapped
Front seats designed for slimmer people
Engine CAN suffer from crankwalk if an uprated clutch is fitted or has history of launching
Brakes are errrrr piss poor in general so benefit from a later upgrade
Cams give less torque than a later model with similar spec
Turbo runs out of puff earlier
Track is a bit narrower so apparently dont handle as well (youll probably never prove that unless on track)
Theyre getting on a bit now!
Some parts were changed for the v onwards so getting spares will throw up a curveball every now and then
Cams and injectors are different too and radiator is a tad slimmer

But!

The iv is no less of an evo though and properly setup will perform with the rest of them.
Its down to choice i suppose, i wanted a iv so bought one, i wasnt concerned by its issues as i do all the work myself.

What the IV looses out on with the narrower track it probably re gains due to being a lighter car
