Hi pitch whining from 6 speed box help

Hi all I have just bought a evo 8 fq330 ruing 417 and I have high pitch whining coming from box or f diff when crushing about 3000 rpm in hight gears .it's fine on over run and when accelerating any ideas whitch bearing etc I would need

take it to a specialist mate.....i had a few whines and noises from mine when i first got it, andy at ac speed tech put it on the ramps and went all over the transmission with a mechanics stethascope, dont get me wrong i dont think you'll know for definate what bearing it is untill you open it up but you'll know if its the transfer box or gearbox, what part of the country are you from?

oo handy I'm going to see Andy on saterday. . I'm guessing it in the transfer box as it had just had a clutch before I bought it and started whining on my way home so I checked the levels the next day and there was none in the transfer box and it only takes 1/2 l.. ; (

i take it your from the north west then?? i ended up buying a transfer box, getting a gearbox rebuild and buying a new ayc pump as that wasnt working when it came to bleed up! oh and the tool you need to bleed it! thats not to mention the other transfer box i bought off a private seller that was as shagged as the one i took out......note to self always buy stuff with garuntee!! mine ended up costing 2600pound :O

gutted mate . my ayc pump is go is ed to . I'll buy a rebuild kit for that £100 and ill take my transfer box out and rebuild it somehow

I thought that....and did buy a rebuild kit but my ayc pump was that corroded it was beyond repair and before i tested to see if it pressurised i had to buy a solenoid.....and it didnt make any pressure! I had to buy the electrical tool to bleed it aswell. And as for the transfer case the parts are as dear as buying a rebuilt one, if you dont need the crown wheel and pinion its mainly just bearings so ends up costing a lot less! Mine had the "death whine" and the two i have in bits now both crown wheel and pinions are worn!

death whine ; ( so my question is when is the death whine .... mine has a high pitch whine at cruse in 4th 5th 6th if you acceleratè a tiny bit it goes and if you back off a tiny bit itgoes

Hard to explain really but you definatly notice it ha ha mine was whining and growling......all sorts! Best thing to do is go on youtube and put in evo 8 death whine and you'll see what i mean... a specialist should point you in the right direction, theres also cpp in sandbatch which shouldnt be that far away from you, there also really good

ye I've put death whine in but mine don't sound like any of them as mine is only on cruse

Yeah i dont think yours is by what your saying like.....mine was mainly on over run an sounded awfully metalic, they all have a slight four by four noise from the gearbox/transfer box but thats ok....how loud is it?

loud I have to turn the cd up to over 25 to drown it out

Sounds like the metalic sound mine was making! More than a whine by the sounds of it mate.....my guess would be transfer box but couldnt say for sure as i had my box rebuilt at the same time. A specialist like cpp or ac speedtech should be able to tell you when its on the ramp

fixed it was pinion bearing transferring down the prop
