HELP!!! EVO 4 ... Knocking

Alright any body can help me with my knocking noise basicly when the car is idling its fine when high rev car it starts knocking sounds like its coming from rocker cover the car dont seem to be boosting right either lack of power and my oil light comes on when its under 1000 revs but goes off when i rev it

Bottom end, same symptoms as mine. Power is down because of knock sensor retarding the timing. Crank walk is the issue on 4's it's a rebuild or replace I'm afraid had to rebuild my bottom end last year on my 8. I would say get yourself a 5 or 6 engine buddy, not too badly priced

More like bigend bearing has gone, not a good sign in indicating the overall condition of the engine, I think you should be looking for a replacement engine

Oil light on when under 1000rpm, indicates low oil pressure. Combined with knocking noise from rocker (lash adjusters sticking, need cleaning or updating) would suggest NO or LOW oil... Have you checked the lvl .....

Checked oil level and theres loads would you say its down the the oil pump and how hard is it to adjust the lash adjusters cheers

Oil pump could be to blame but the outcome is still the same. Lash adjusters is easy enough start to finish had mine done in an hour bit fiddly but would rather that than some other jobs. I would be sourcing another engine if I was you, have a second opinion as we are only speculating but if you drain your oil you may find your evidence there

firstly is a knock or a tick?....if its a knock i would be pulling the sump off and dropping each big end bearing cap off to check the condition, if its a tick id be changing lash adjusters, but the main problem is the low oil pressure, needs to be checked with a manual gauge to see if the oil switch is working correctly

With the disruption knocking and down on power I would say its knockin the sensor so like si says big end. A rebuild on a 4 engine I'll be honest isn't worthwhile like already said grab a 5 or 6 engine they are more robust and reliable, because of the design they are prone to crank walk.

i looked into modifying the 4 block and its doable but not worth it, by time youve machined the block face, bought 5+ caps then line bored it then rebuild it, may have well gone 2nd hand 5 engine
