Well if it just doing it in 3rd gear then I would have to say that the synchro is on it's way out buddy.

Have you tried an oil change to see if that helps???

i agree with el it is most likely the synchro mesh its prob just on its way thats why it wont be doing it when you change slowly/smoothly as for when you do it faster its more strain so if its on its way thats when you would get the crunch.

but id try oil change to bud! (if not allready)

i have still got warrenty or so i thaough but having rung the garage today found out they have closed the doors dissapointing after having nine cars of them over the years so may have to sell this one now instead of my EVO 4 or the EVO 4 will have to pay for the repair

So if they have closed the doors, does that mean they have shut up shop or that they are telling ya that they are not willing to do the work? Very important that ya get this bit right as I might be able to give ya some right good advice.

The warranty that they gave ya when ya bought tha car is valid regardless of whether or not the dealer still operates. Check the paperwork that ya have and let me know what it says regarding warranty as in who was responsible for it's inception. If it is still valid within the date from sale then your still gonna be entitled to a minimum of £40 per hour labour of upto around 8 hours and maybe around £600 in parts per claim within a usual period of a minimum of 3 months.

There should also be a contact number for the warranty underwriters in the paperwork. If it's just a company name then get back to me and I will check on my database for ya. The warranty is open to any Garage that is VAT registered and willing to carry out the work, not necessary for you to take it to the dealer that you bought the car off in the first place, it is an insurance policy just like the one that covers you for accidents.
