hi guys

what started as quick fix has turned in to what i think is a good mod :O)

over the last couple of days ive found ive been missing / crunching 3rd gear and this morning i lost 1st and 2nd all together ??? :O(

on closer inspection i found the mount that supports the gear change cables to the gear box had come apart " rubber bonded cups that the cables clip to had split away from the main mount "

as i cant really see a real need for the rubber part of this mount i decided to fired up the welder and fix the cups solid to the rest of the mount and also just to get the car back on the road really :O)

all i can say is what a differance it has made to the gear change , i thought it was close befor but now its just superb :O)

i had already changed the rubber bushes in the box end of the cables for skate board bearings " 608zz i believe " which gave a big improvment to feel . well over a year ago now .

this on its own is a mod worth doing :O)

im sure others have already done these mod's but i thought i would ad some possitive feed back

cheers :O)

some quick pic's :O)

i replaced the rubber cups on mine after doing the clutch,as i was crunching 3rd too.. also fitted ralliart bushes t0 the shifter base : only because i lost the uprated eclipse bushes i never fitted(found 3,lost 1..so had to buy again)..

i must say,the shifter base was causing the misshifts

can you give us the size of the bearing pictured above?? (edit , you alreay did)

everyone should at least replace the soft shifterbase bushings.

this happened to me the other week,
two days after my balance belt snapped,
I went on a road trip and the car jammed in 1st gear, so the last 10 miles I did jammed in 1st gear,(I know how a tractor driver feels with a great tail back behind with nowhere to pull in lol) after I welded it up (only option as all dealers I rang had a 5 day wait to get one and I needed car) it feet like I put a short shifter on,,
very good mod but the question is why on earth do they put rubber mounts on these cars (even puntos don't have this daft design)

back to balance belt I got lucky,, popped a new one on and a crank sensor with trigger wheel and touch wood it has been fine since

I've got some solid brass shifter cable bushes fitted on my car. Great improvement :)
