From Canada - Evo 5 as a dd?

My fellow UK friends,

I live in Central Canada and am looking at importing an Evo 5 to use as a dd. I'd be looking at something from Japan with less than 100,000 km's on it and in good to excellent condition.

Can anyone shed some light on how reliable this car will be as a dd? I know it's a pretty raw sports car but from what I heard they will work alright as a dd too.

Saskatchewan, central Canada. Temperature ranges from -40 at the lowest in the winter to +40 at the highest in the summer. Under sealed with some type of rust proofing is that what you mean?

Varies, mostly city during the week, I'd estimate no more than 100 kms/week but the odd weekend, maybe once a month I may be putting on 800 kms.

It'll be fine. Unless it's highly modified.
Do the normal car checks and as said get it undersealed.

Why not? Besides their aggressive clutch and stiff suspension.

I guess I should give a bit more background into the Evo's here. You have to wait 15 years from their production year to import them from Japan so we will be able to start importing the 6's next year. They're rare! I've never seen one in the city where I live and I've heard that in Winnipeg where I will be moving to, a city of 800,000, only 5 Evo 5's have been imported, thus parts are not available locally. However, they made the 7's and up in the U.S and I've heard most parts are interchangeable, especially engine-wise, is that right?

My decision right now is between a 2005 Subaru STi or the Evo V. The STi's run for about $22,000, the Evo's can be imported for only about $11,000-12,000. So basically I would go with the Evo because it is a much cheaper, equally as high performance car. Also, from what I know the subbie blocks are fairly weak on the STI's due to the aluminum block so they don't take well to mods, the Evo is a different story though. The Evo's engine bay is also dirt simple. Any thoughts on this?

I use my mak as a daily and it's fine. A bit more expensive to run than a normal car but miles more fun!

What kind of rpm's are you running at going 100 kmh? 120? I'm just curious for highway driving.

Not entirely sure but maybe around 3k. Our national speed limit its 60mph so mine spends most of its time sat at that speed or 30 going through towns.
