Exhaust Temp

Basically i was just wondering how exhaust temperatures effect the Evo when you tune the car to above 350 bhp with only a 2.0 litre lump in it.

The reason i ask this question is that when i had my skyline with the standard 2.0 litre lump not bored out just metal head in it running over 350 bhp with a TD06 20g:D my EGT would go through the roof on long drives if i caned it constantly so used to suffer from power dips due to the EGT and the only way to cure this was to get the engine bored to a bigger size. so was just wondering if the Evo suffers from this being a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder beast:cool:

evos are generally fine until big power (or poor mapping)

what kind of temps were you hitting on the skyline?

You do not need an EGT sensor as the Skylines require on the manifold (the sensor is connect to the down pipe as stock, then uprated to the manifold...........something you are well aware of:D)

You can connect the sensor to the Evo but I have only ever seen it on a couple of them, one was a TimeAttack car and the other was owned by our very own Dave Brennun.

Dave had it on the car already and he told me that it was there when he bought the car.

The car was running 600+ but was de-tuned well before he got his hands on it.

It is entirely up to you if you plan on getting one fitted, fair play if you do;)

used to hit 900c nearly every time that used to cause the car to splutter:(

So with my understanding EGT temps dont really play a massive part unless ur running big power so the 350 bhp is nothing really for the Evo then cool for me then hee hee:cool:

I was hunting earlier for a vid that Chris posted up when his Evo was on the rollers at The Racing Line but I could not find it in his stats..............hold up, here you go buddy!!!

This is when you need the EGT sensor on an Evo:

http://www.evoowners.co.uk/f6/my-evo-7-2-3-stroker-1711.html

I believe his Evo is running just below the 500 mark........then again, it might be running 605:confused:

I am sure he will be along to clarify;)

That GReddy Gauge you had on your Skyline sure looked sweet!!!

Kind of reminded me of some that I had on my Pulsar!

els got one of them gauges for sale, looks well good!

I think you did not look close enough Dave:rolleyes:

If you had, you would have noticed that although they look identical, the one on this thread measures exhaust temperature as opposed to the one that I have, which measures engine temperature;)

You should have gone to SpecSavers:D:D:D
