Hi,

This is my second evo 7, and this one has a AYC problem aswell ;/

The lights on the dashboard don't illuminate at all- so I have nothing to work with, ACD button does nothing, and there is no fluid in the reservoir .

Here is a brief description copied from another topic

ok what i know for now:

-Fuse at the + terminal is in, and seems good

-Relay under plague is plugged in (there are 2 of them there) (did not check if it clicks)

-There are no ABS lights (that would be triggered if something was wrong with AYC)

-no sound on ignition+throttle (seems the pump is off?)

- passenger side foot well seems all in (dont mind the dirt, need to clean it out)

-drivers side foot well seems all in

-driver side has 2 wires cut... but i have HKS turbo timer and TOAD so i guess its done for that?

QUESTIONS:

-How to get those damn 3 lights to work? (ran out of ideas, take the relay out? last thing would be to take the clocks out.)

-What fluid to use in AYC/how much (really need an answer by tomorrow evening as want to order one to top it up next week)

Any suggestions would be great! And if anyone is close to southampton and has a few minutes i could pop round if you dont mind having a quick look?

Thanks!!!

are you sure that previous owner didn't remove the bulbs to hide fault

Is the pump plugged in behind the r bumper, we had an evo 8 in last week with no ayc lights and this was to blame,
It's was the worst ayc pump I've seen, totally rotten, and the rest of the car was in poor shape,
Scary rust underneath, sad to see but the owner didn't care,
His cam belt was frayed and on the edge of death, showed him and he drove off, Turned up a week later for the work to be done,
I can't believe it survived

BOOM! legend man :)
I was lurking around the car today again, checked the fuses and stuff... topped up the fluid just in case... and decided- going to look at the pump, seen the wires, gave them a touch and:

unplugged!!!

hmhmhmh
now.... my common sense tells me theres something interesting about the car... as the fluid was totally empty, pump is disconnected... makes me think it has a upgraded diff?

I've been under the car, and seen AYC written on the casing of the rear diff, pipes are going in to it...
Options are:
-ayc simply has a problem (and i need to connect the plugs back and see wagwan :) )
-Cusco diff inside the casing? (have no bills to proove, but the car has been well maintained)
-RS diff? (but as I understand it would not have AYC written and pipes connected ?)

also I finally grounded 1/4 on the OBD
ABS light flashes... and if I counted correct ... 32 and 71 (suggestions?)

Just a few more things about the car:
Its a Dandelion Evo 7 imported in 2005 with 18k on the clock... currently on 47k...
(year ago in manchester on a meet)

previous owner got it august time, and spent over 4k on it... as the engine showed a piston in November ;/ low mileage Evo 8 engine was purchased (as it has stronger bearings) and fitted in january with new water pump, belts etc...new clutch and flywheel aswell... march time the car developed a whine and the transfer box was replaced .. (oil pressure sensor was knocked by accident, and oil light came on.. sensor replaced and problem gone now :) )

When I got the car I was aware AYC is not working, and I got it as my previous evo 7 in the same colour and similar spec had the same issue and it never bothered me....Owner did tell me that AYC was off ever since he got it...

This is how the car looks now:

It works and drives beautifully, just want to figure out what is exactly wrong with the AYC :arms:

THANKS for all your ideas and help.. hope we can figure it out :)

The first port of call is to clean out the said plugs in the pic and their corresponding terminals. Once done, reconnect them.

Then, top up the reservoir to just below the max level.

After that, you will need to go over to the drivers seat and then:

Fully depress the accelerator and keep it depressed (do not release it throughout the following process).

Turn the key all the way in the barrel but do not start the car, you just need all the lights to come up in the speedo cluster.

Now, turn the steering all the way to the right and hold it there for a couple of seconds (it will be heavy),then all the way to the left and hold it there for a couple of seconds and then back into the dead straight position.

If the pump is fine, you will hear it come to life and all of the ACD lights should start to flash briefly leaving just one light on (either Tarmac / Snow / Gravel) at the end of the process.

If it all goes well, take it for a short spin and then see how you go.

Do get back to us.....

I need a log in code to view the video......

I am of the opinion that someone had a problem with the ACD Pump and just thought it will be a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to remove the bulbs etc. and then flog the car on to some unsuspecting punter.

It's not a nice thing to do but many tend to do it!

If you heard no pump activation then you need to check all connections and go back to basics on the system. Also check for leaks too.

Is there still fluid in the reservoir???

The thing is that the pump will activate or even try to activate irregardless of it being fine or not.

The purpose of the test was to see if the pump can hold pressure, which has not been determined as you have zero bulbs flashing or glowing.

If the bulbs are all in place and they have not blown out then you have an open circuit somewhere.

Again, you will need to go back to basics.

I suggest that you check to see if the solenoids are functioning on the pump.

If they are, run a continuity test on the solenoids and see if a forced current will get them operating, also run a continuity test on the complete ACD Loom.

The video is of no use, unless you're trying to show me which stereo you have fitted in your car.... :whistling:

You need a Power Probe or a good Volt Meter that has continuity functions integrated into the unit.

Short of that, you will need to make a tester tool that can be connected to a 12v power supply.

I'm getting old, hearings starting to go lol!!!

I am not really interested in the sound of the pump, merely that it makes a sound is good enough for me right now.

I would prefer to see a longer video that is specifically aimed at the Speedo Cluster as I am interested in seeing what goes on with the ACD Display while the self bleed is being conducted.

As I stated earlier, if the Pump is down or functioning correctly, it will make a noise either way.

Thus far, I have determined that the Pump is getting a power supply to it but have not determined if there is an open circuit elsewhere.

I presume that you have reconnected the plug that was pointed out to you by our Ant yes?....

Longer video- It does nothing, I can hear the pump making sounds once i turn the steering wheel right.. 3 sec.. .left 3 sec... centre 3 sec... but as I hold the acceleration the sound continues, but no lights come one.

It does make some sort of sound

Dont know how to check open circuit (where to start ? )

I did reconnect it first thing before the video was made (before there were no sounds at all)

Just for the peace of mind I had the clocks out, and all seems perfect there

Had a trip to stansted in the morning... got 33mpg!! (well happy as scooby STI only returned 24) now a few h nap and need to pick a mate up from luton ;/ .... should I remove the pins for the time being? or keep them connected?

Remove the pins mate, you only need them in for the diagnosis.

Have you removed the bulbs and inspected them to ensure that they are not blown???

In an ideal world, the self bleed will make all 3 lights come on and then 2 will go out.

If there are no lights coming on at all and all 3 bulbs are fine under inspection, you have an open circuit somewhere within the ACD Loom. It is also possible that the ACD Module is down perhaps.

If it's over your head, you have a couple of options IMO:

1. Get hold of John and explain what is going on with the motor, tell him I recommended him, he is in Kent:

Evo Owners Forum - View Profile: John@SVA

2. Alan Jefferey is quite good and he is in Plymouth.

A quick google search will give you his details.
