Evo VIII Buying Advice

Hi All,

Right as the Subject states, im looking to but my 1st Evo and ive decided to got for the version VIII. I currently own an Audi S3 but im wanting a weekend car.

My main question is which one to go for as there are a few out there ie FQ300 FQ340 and so on and what kind of things to look out for. Got £12k max to spend on it so hopefully get a decient one for that price

12k sould get you a nice VIII mate, you may get an MR for that money but dont worry if its a 300/320/3400 cos your first remap will take you to 360-380

Ive been tryin to find a buying gudie on this wensite but cant seem to find one, I take the MR's are the boys to got for, Ive been on pistonheads and autotrader and there are a few around my price mark.

Will The engine need any other up-grades when the rem-map is done, to support the extra brake?

alot of people run 400bhp on a evo 8 engine without any probs and is you go for an MR the you get better seats instead of the horrible blue ones and a better turbo and cams

Thanks again I bought my S3 before I joined one of these forums and found out a few things I should of looked out for AFTER I bought it, was kicking myself, Its sitting @ 268BHP but just want something quicker and fun for the weekends.

What re-map would u recommend?

ecutech is the comon one but youll find that mapping an evo aint like mapping an audi. i take it your audi was a plug and play revo job, well with an evo it will cost a little more but they are live mapped on the road, some tuners will have a map to start off and some will map the car on a rolling road then finish on the road a few 4th gear pulls later your done

geek mappers are around not sure what software they use but its alot cheaper but sometimes not that much benifit over standard power.

depends how far your prepaired to travel for a good tuner really, i do just over a 2hr trip to see mine although i there are others closer the place i got is one of the best. im not familular with tuner up your way but shout us some names and we can tell you wether to avoid or not

The map for the audi was APR map it was done before I bought the car, My mate had his scoody sti re-mapped by Andy forrest (subaru specialist) which was a EcuTek custom remap, It was a plug and play job, scooting up and down the motor way for almost an hour whilst hes sittin in the front seat with his lap top and head phones on. It was crazy watchin how it was done.

Andy gallacher lives just up the road from me hes got a rolling road and I also know of Star performance in Fife. But I suppose my 1st problem is wether I buy a Evo thats box standard or one thats already tuned, tuned one prob been thrashed a bit.

Seen 3 MR's on pistonheads all around the 11k mark and all standard, doesnt seem to be many about.

Oh and travellings not a problem id rather have it done by the best if im payin for it anyways
