evo 7 engine management light

ive just bought a 2001 evo 7 and all was fine but i started to notice when i park it facing up a hill for a while,i go to start it up and the management light is on but when ive driven it a few hundred yards it goes off.and today it came on whilst driving(there was no loss of power or juddering or anything)then it went off, and has since come on and gone off a couple ov times on the way home from work.any ideas cheers

could be the upstream (after the cat)lambda sensor starting to give trouble.
Are you doing long or short runs ?

mostely short runs,if i park it in my garage overnight its on when i start it,but when its on the drive when i start it in the morn its off.on my way to work it flicks on and off once or twice(sometimes it stays on or never comes on)but if its on when i get to work every time ive pulled up and got out to clock in its gone off(the car is nice and warm by then aswel)hope ths makes sense.

Hi,
these cars dont like short runs prefer long ones, 2nd lambda is not getting hot enough it needs a good run to clean out the exhaust system. EML (engine management light) should always come on when ignition is switched on then out when car is started, sometimes the EML can stay on for a very short time when first started then go out.

If as you say it comes on every now and again, could be the ECU is not getting the correct signal from some components IE: lambda`s cause they are not switching as and when they should do (needs a thrash lol)

How is the car on fuel (miles per gallon) is it using more than you thought it would ???

yes it is, i knew they are bad on fuel but not this bad(i drove it 200 miles on motorway and it cost 40quid around town its even worse) now that you mention it i had a little play on the way home and gave it a bit ov a thrashin and it did go off but as i sat in traffic it came back on again
