Evo 6 gearbox on an evo 8???

Hi all,
Im looking for a new 5 speed gear box for my 5 speed evo 8
Ive had a look around and jap parts can do me and evo 6 5 speed box for £550, they say its a direct fit but the ratio may be different.
Does anyone know if im likely to have any issues doing this or if it is safe to do?

Should work just fine. The revese light switch is different as far as i know its just a case of swapping a plug or extending the harness .. easy fix

but i just pulled a Box off a Mates 8,and havent noticed a difference.

pulling the Box on a 456 is a much quicker Job than a 789

Evo 7/8 5speed boxes have a longer 5th gear that's all.

As said you might need to fiddle with the plug but otherwise direct fit.

i fitted a e7 five speed box in my e4 . ment to have a shorter 1st and longer 5th than the e4 box .

if i remember right the only thing i had to do was use one of the e7 box mounts . front lower . and swap the speedo drive over from my old box to suit my tyre size :0)

dont remember having any issues with wiring but it was a while ago i swapped them over .
