evo 5 shocks change

would I be right in thinking that all rear shocks from later cars 6/7/8/9 are a straight swop on the 5. and that fronts from the 6 are straight change, but 7/8/9 need to be adapted to fit. thinking of putting later shocks on mine to freshen up the suspension and dont want coilovers.
