engine miss-fire

hello every-one, i have been looking at this site for months now and read lots of interesting points, i have never needed to ask a question before, but as the time has come...here i am!

I have an evo4 'P' reg, running around 300 b.h.p, little done really,just induction and exhuast and dump valve.I have now got a problem with 2 clyinders going down at intermitant times and then coming back up.It is in a electrical car garage at the moment, they have traced the fault to no signal from the engine e.c.u for the coil pack for clyinders 1 and 2.So i go and buy a nice shinny new e.c.u and they fit it, i take the car home and it does it again!!!!
So the car is back at the garage,the car will run for agaes and then the engine managment light comes on and the car runs on two clyinders and stops.the car may start back up or if you leave it 10 mins it will start again on all 4.they have swoped the coil packs over and the misfire stays on clyinders 1 and 2.
Any one got any ideas please, the garage are stuck and i am getting worried!!! i have read some great peaces on here from some other garages and woundered if any one had come across this before?

Sounds like you have got a bit of a head scratcher. Afraid I cant think of anything to suggest. Im assuming the garage has the equipment to read the fault code?

As it is a import they can not read the codes.i have just sent them the information on here about how to read the codes by bridging the wire on the o.b.d plug and the blink codes.i did notice that this was for u.k cars only.....just hope it works?

hi lexusgs300, I am unfortunatly having a few of the same problems you are having. I have a 'P' Reg Evo 4 which has an intermitant problem with starting and if left for 10 mins will start again, or if i start it with my foot full throttle which sometimes works. It also rev's at 2grand at intermitant times also, but this happens when hot and cold so not sure. I work in a car garage but unfortunatly the diagnostic machine did not find any fault codes. I will have to take to mitsi but pennies short at the moment.

Did you have any success with your problem? It would be a great help any info you can provide.

never came across this b4???

but lets have ago,,,,,,,,has every1 double checked ALL wiring going 2 the coil packs??

my m8s wires rubbed through,but u could,nt see them??

Engine managment light coming on may have something to do with the throttle position censor,get them to have a look at that.
