Hi all question is there a big difference between named brand and a eBay fmic will a eBay one do for road use and the odd track day now and again has anyone had bad experience with cheap ones or anyone running one?

Honestly you really do get what you pay for with an Evo. When they designed it they over done it cos things like the cooler we design not just to do the job they need to but they will handle a lot more.

I know the standard 7/8/9 cooler will do 400bhp car no problem and as it's slightly wider than the Evo 4/5/6 one I would look to get yourself one.

Basically your standard cooler will be more than adequate but if your looking to do some track work and with some more power then I'd fit a cooler from a 7/8/9.

Avoid the eBay rubbish at all costs cos it either won't fit or you'll have to cut the bumper to get it to fit

As above, avoid the eBay stuff, it's cheap for a reason. However you can get HKS, Greddy, etc intercoolers for about £600 IIRC. A brand spaking new stock one from Mitsu is £850 + VAT!!

You get what you pay for with these parts in all honesty. If the stock intercooler is still working fine, then just stick with that if your running under 400 BHP. It does a good job, far better than any of the eBay stuff.

Was indicating that he could use a second hand cooler from a 7/8/9 from people that have upgraded to a AMS/APS/hks etc.

I bought a APS cooler for my VII then sold my standard for £100 to and Evo iV owner :)

as already mentioned ebay ones tend to be a right pig to fit and usually need huge amounts of your bumper trimed to get it back on. and the above mentioned 7,8,9 intercooler being better would work but you would have to modify the top bracket to get it to fit to the 5 as its in a slightly different place. i recently took off a breaker an autobahn88 intercooler that looked quite neat and they are fairly reasonably priced aswell from what i can remember ;)

well the one i removed from a 5 looked like a well put together kit so i'd say it may be worth a punt and is certainly a better choise than the cheap bar and plate ebay jobbies.

yep a simple bracket is all thats needed to fit the 7,8,9 think i may have one at work aswell if interested

Just remember do it once and do it right, do cheap and will end up expensive.....unless you can do little bits yourself or use the forums well !!!

I also run an autobahn88 cooler. Looks good and no problems with it (its been running great with it for ner 4 years now). You would be surprised what good stuff you can get on ebay as long as you spend lots of time doing your homework. However the pipe work you get with it is a waste of time and doesnt fit right. So get some pipes made up to fit your car.
