e4 power steering noise

Ok bit of a strange one this or it might be just me :blush:

so after the car had been sitting for about 3 weeks at the body shop picked her up drove home all fine after a couple of days i could hear a very high piched sound coming from the power steering pump its like a high piched whistle...

any one else got the same sort of sound coming from the pump or have i got air in the system or even a failing pump?

Have you checked it's got fluid in it? The bearing inside the pump is most likely the problem.

As billy said. Check the fluid.

Friends scoob used to like spewing its power steering fluid out gradually until eventually it would wine.

Topped it up and no noise :angel:

cheers guys, ya deffo got fluid in there and bang on the max mark id go get some video of it but whilst trying to sort this problem out another problem come out grrrr

Ha that's unreal, glad it happened when it did. Easy to sort though 10min job to fix.

I'm guessing it's like billy said, the bearing. See if you can source another. Did it happen as when the coolant went everywhere?

Try a bit of wd40 at the base of the wheel (not on the belt lol)

ya got a set of rad hoses ordered yesday so should b here by tuesday.

cut along story short a old gent hit the bumper on the evo and she went into the body shop and stood around for 3 weeks i picked her up drove her home and whilst going onto a inclosed multistory car park the other day i could her a very high pitched sound... got bk home and had a listen around the engine bay at pinned it down to the power steering area. its deffo not the pre ten idle pully as i fitted a new one about 3months ago along with the top big idle pully as well "wasnt bloody cheap lol"

tried some wd40 yesday and took her for a drive and got bk home and poped the bonnet soon as the fan kicked in thats when the hose went pop :shock: talk about good timing

soon as i get the hoses fitted ill get some video footage, whilst im bleeding the rad

there we go managed to make shift a top hose from some hose i had lying around until my new ones get here. here is the noise im on about

Still a hard one to diagnose.

Have a google about and see if anyone's had similar or replaced bearings in the pump.

It must have been damp where it was stored or something, i know when I clean the engine on my bmw and get some water in there the next day I get noises like that but they go away eventually.

Hi mate just an idea I had a whistle noise only present when turbo spooling up I had a rs rack fitted and thought it was the pump straight away but turned out to be j pipe gasket
