hello everyone new to these forums but i have owned my evo 8 mr fq340 for 3 years, its done 80k mileage and the other day something went in the engine area, I drove it for like a mile like it ..... to get it to a more safe location, then got it picked up and taken to a garage and they have said piston has exploded and it needs a full engine rebuild costing 5100 pounds, surely this cant be what has happened ?? i know you cant trust every garage and i dont know these guys, just looking for some other opinions iv'e had some already which has told me that it shouldn't need an engine rebuild, because when the car went wrong it was still running and able to move .... it was spluttering and coughing but it was moving, any opinions would be great and it makes sense to come here, to see if anyone else has had this problem

o yea and i keep it serviced every 6 months

It's simple to check. Drop the sump of and have a look.
If you do need a full rebuild then it depends entirely on what you actually need. I'd get it checked by an Evo specialist.
Where abouts are you?

Take it to a specialist, most of the people in the garage scene don't know how to deal with a evo.

piston exploded? doesnt sound healthy but prob an egsageration of a melted piston, if that is the case yes you will be looking at a rebuild but more to the point you need to assertain what caused it in the first place. to remove the pison engine needs to be out the car anywaysand replacing one pison isnt advised genrally,
