Hi buddy,
have you had the car on a ramp and checked the drop links???

Does the tappet noise come in when the engine is on cold start too and then fade away and then back once the engine is at normal temperature???

Does it get louder with the increase through the rev range???

A little more info required.

Hi will be going over 2 a mates garage today will b able 2 use his ramps so will have a look at drop links

As for the tappet noise does seem to just come and go hot or cold some days it dont do it at all
omeone
Gets a bit louder in the rev range but as u rev as u get higher up if the noise is there it will go at higher revs then return at lower revs . Someone did tell me was a common thing on them just wonderd how easy or costley it was 2 fix

Thanks dude

Yes it is quite common and there is no point in really trying to fix it as it will just come back.

Let me know how you get on at your mates place.

Thanks for the heads up on the tappets ! well got it on ramps and looks like your spot on bit of play in drop links .

Found some leaks tho  Rear diff drivers side and a collection of oil at bottom of gearbox , cleaned it all off will see what happens

Have you topped up the dif and the gear box fluids???

It is worth doing as you have spotted the leaks.

Had a look at all the levels and they seem 2 be ok . not had the car long so its all new 2 me !

Is it normal 2 get what i can only discribe as "diff" noise when u get over about 40mph

I am kinda used to scoobs lol and dont get this noise with that some people say its normal and others dont !

If it is a whine then no, you should not get that noise. I suggest that you drain the dif oil and replace it. It may well be that it was replaced just before you purchased the car , hence the oils on the bungs.

Give it a try and see how it goes. Hopefully the oil is gunky and when you relace it with fresh oil it will be just fine.

Keep me posted buddy.

another common fault for knocking is the front suspension topmounts.

as for the tappets, again a common fault with the standard lash adjusters, the best way to cure it would be to replace the lash adjusters with 3mm hole uprated ones........looking about £100, easily enough replaced yourself although its a fiddly job.

A valid suggestion on the uprated lash adjusters.

Easily manageable if you have the basic tools.

Instructions can be supplied if you require them buddy.

your rear diff bearings (cogs) are worn.
changing the oil will prevent it from getting it worse & get you more miles out of it.
i have a similiar noise on my 4.
will be changing it soon.
as for your noise from engine, i would say the tappets.
change the oil & filter.
drive it a week or two & see the outcome'

what rear diff are you running? ayc? (if ayc, I think this has to be serviced every 4k miles or something daft)
