I do think location is important but I wont go so far as to make it compulsory. Some people are very keen on their privacy and see the fact its compulsory as scary.
I know they could put a fake location but it would still cause issues for some people.

Nick please make it a compulsory field. I don't care if the write "on the beach" but at least it gives them a chance to write something and it helps me when it comes to organising shows and anyone else for that matter cos it's good to know roughly where people are.
For example mine says bath but bath is a fairly big city so you have a hard job finding my car there plus I don't actually live in bath, Im 10 miles outside so you have even less chance but what it does is just show people roughly what area I'm from

As for privacy, you forgotten that this is a public forum for people to chat. What's private about that
