Sounds like your cold start valve is dirty, not sure where it is. But when you find it, simply remove it and clean it out

Hi All,
The Throttle body has 2 switches,
Switch one is known as the Speed Sensor/ Throttle Position Sensor is located behind the throttle body: It has a plug with a couple wires. It is not relevant but worth knowing.

The second one is more relevant to this thread, It is located directly underneath the Throttle Body, this is a solenoid which is being referred to here as the cold start valve. I advise you to take this one out and replace it with a new one.

All should back to normal once done!!!

StevieITR is right, you should not rev the engine at all until the temperature needle has moved off and is above the lowest marking unless you have a couple of engines spare.

The oil needs to be warm and flowing around the engine before it can be of benefit.

You should refrain from dipping the clutch until the needle has moved too as this will help avoid crank walk which will cost an arm and a leg to cure.

It would be wise to add a good fuel additive before or after the change has been done. The additive should cost you a minimum of £10 to be considered worth while. Look for the Forte brand, It is the best hands down.

I presume you have a VI or above Mr.Lancer. If it is a I,II or III then get back to me buddy.

Yes Mr.Lancer, we are on the same page buddy. I do not think that a clean will do the job but it is worth a try. Get some additive flowing through the system well before you do a change or a clean. I would also pop the plugs out and check their condition. When the plugs are at optimum efficiency they do help to keep the engine running even if the Solenoid is almost down.
As for your revs, you will need to adjust the air fuel mixture. This can be done at the same time as the other issue. I will fill you in later. You know where I am buddy. Give me a shout right here and I will there for you.

Here is the low down seeing as you asked so nicely!!
Crank walk occurs usually when it has not been lubricated by the engine oil. This main cause of this is ultimately attributed to the clutch pedal being dipped when the car has a cold start. There is minor vibration caused at this time and slowly, but surely, over time it becomes major vibration!! Hence the saying "crank walk" as in; the crank has gone for a walk!! Meaning that it has moved from the original position.

As for notorious!!! Show me any make of car that it can never occur on and I will prove that it can.

Hey buddy,
900 will be a better range to idle at.

You must take the voltage drop and demands that will occur when you turn the headlights on etc. into consideration or you will be forever setting things up;)

Keep me posted on how you get on buddy.

I noticed that you are considering an oil change. I suggest you give millers 10W40 a whirl. It is Group A verified so will do all that you want it to do and then some.

Get a price locally and let me know what they want for it. I will try to get it for you at trade price.

As I said, keep me posted on how you get on buddy.

yeah once you have replaced the cold start it should idle high between 1100 and1200 rpm then once warmed should drop to about 900ish good luck
