clutch noise...

noticed earlier when driving home a noise when changing gear.
when i lift back up on clutch i can hear a noise.
like a whinning noise or a leak? hard to explain.
anyone any ideas? the cars going in next week so can be fixed then.
just want some ideas what it may cost if anyone can guess problem.

I have exactly the same on my Evo8, when releasing the clutch on gearing down there was a strange ginding screaching type noise hard to explain, i wasnt on every gear change, just intermitent.

Took it to the local garage and they said couldnt find nothing wrong, took the mechanic out in so he could hear it and it as cars have the habit of doing when showing the mechanic it stopped making the noise!.

Kept driving for another few weeks until it got that it was doing it almost every gear change, i also started noticing a slight loss in power and it felt like my turbo was lagging bad.

A few days ago i noticed the clutch seemed to be slipping so i took it to a respected local mechanic who works on performance cars, he diagnosed the clutch is slipping really bad and needs replacing.
guess that the noise early on was a sign of the clutch starting to go.

Was looking round for a new clutch when my wife phoned to say some 18 yr old plantpot in a snide Pug eating a Mcdonalds had just turned straight into the side of my Evo, taking out the drivers door, rear door and crushing the side skirt!

Its still drivable, but now while waiting for the insurance company to pick it up ive noticed that the 3 lights on the ACD all light up after about 5 minutes of driving, ive also got a light knock, knock, knock type noise coming from the front drivers wheel when i brake.

Im absolutely gutted.

Its doing me in to think that its now going to have to be repaired, which im going to be looking at everytime i get in it, and now these other problems have appeared since the bang.

Im not clued up on the insurance thing so dont know , but will they repair the ACD light and knock coming from by the wheel, obviously the clutch is something ill still get repaired when i get it back.
with it being the other persons fault can i say to the insurance that i dont want a repaired car, id rather they write it off and i get another as i just dont want a car thats been repaired.

The noise on your clutch sounds exactly the same as mine, a hard to explain screechy,grindy type noise when releasing the clutch.

bad news there buddy i would be gutted. as long as the repair is done to a good standard it will be ok. anything caused by the accident will be sorted when they repair it, its not just cosmetics they do. if you get a good garage they may even pop a clutch in at the same time, i know someone who claimed for allsorts of upgraded parts when he had his cupra repaired

i had that same funny noise bit like a squeek a few months ago and just before xmas the clutch statred slipping. now in the process of changing the clutch, bit of a big task when im doing my self on the deck but do have the advantage of a garage.
