Car's smoking

I have just changed the injectors on my e4 RS to the 560cc injectors (which it should've had due to having a TME engine and 8 turbo).

Is it normal for the car to start smoking? It was ok for the first minute or so, then kept smoking for around 20 minutes (white smoke)? I switched the engine off for a minute or so and then started it again and now only smoking very little (blue smoke)!!

when it was throwing white smoke out, would get worse when engine revved.

White smoke is turbo, blue smoke is engine, black smoke is over fuelling/high air intake and if it's green smoke then God help us all!!!

You're not having much luck with that IV RS are you buddy:mad:

What happened with the compression test that I told you to carry out a few weeks back:confused:

I found it weird that the smoke changed colour after a while. The white smoke stopped after a good while. I was going to take it for a run but thought best not to (trafffic time). Later it smokes a little on idle (blueish smoke). I will start the car up in the morning and see if there's any difference.

El this isn't the same car. This is another one. Seemed like it had boost cut or not enough fuel coming throuigh> I was told it had the smaller injectors so thought best to get the right injectors in there and then take it from there.

The other car, I didn't get round to doing anything to it till today (just been getting other things sorted). Got the car up on a ramp and checked the crank pulley (not really any movement, maybe 1mm). The reason it was making the noises is because the numpty that put the engine in used messed up gaskets which caused it to miss. I have new gaskets from Mitsubishi which should be in by tomorrow. The gear selection problem is resolved :) There was a part (can't remember the name, prob gear selector) which was damaged.

Once the gaskets are in, I will check it out and let you know how I get on. I'll also get a compression test done and let you know how I get on.

It's a bit iffy to be honest with you.

Swap the plugs round with the other Evo and start it up. Let it run for a little while and then see what happens.

Take it for a short run too to see if the smoke clears up or increases on boost.

Get back to me with your findings and we can take it from there.

Was it smoking before the injector change???

Inspect the turbo and the pipes to see if there is excess oil residue too.

I'm going to go down in the next half an hour and will let you know what happens El. It wasn't smoking before the injectors. Was running well (sort of). I did ask my mate to check the plugs and give them a quick clean if need be or advise if we needed some new ones.

I will find out from him what state the plugs were in. I have had the rocker cover seals sorted before and the plugs had oil on them. I did blow all the oil out. The plugs were ok at the time.

I'll see what's happening with the plugs. You reckon I should just stick a new set of plugs in? Which do you recommend if I need to change them?

Thanks El

Well it's starting to make sense now buddy!

It was probably the oil that was escaping through the rocker seals and the blow out that has caused the problem.

If that is the case then a short drive should clear it all out.

Let me know how you get on.

It's starnge as it didn't really smoke too much before. I did get some smoke from under the bonnet which will have been the oil that got away when the rocker cover was removed. I know on Subaru's it lasts a while and they smell bad when gaskets are changed on inlet side (I think).

I started it up from cold (not been run since yesterday) and no smoke :) Then about a minute later got little smoke grayish blue but when you rev it, it stopped. It smelt as though it's running rich.

I also noticed the catch tank had been connected with no breather!!

Sorted that out (sort of, need to get a t piece). I will get one tomorrow, connect properly, then take out for a run and let you know how I get on. It's running rich which is a good thing (the 560cc injectors running ok)?

The other one has had the gaskets changed apart from the inlet one. I swapped the coilpacks and leads from the other onto this one and it seems a little better (not missing as much). So, it could do with new plugs and coilpack. The rev dropping issue is a lot better (doesn't really drop revs now). Think it may have been the selector playing up?

The compression test will be done tomorrow as mates had their hands tied today and could only get the gaskets sorted, so hopefully tomorrow test will be done.

Hopefully i should have some updates on both cars tomorrow
