Hi guys so this hot weather we are having has made my ayc lightcome on a couple of times from reading posts on here I think I might as well bite the bullet and get a reconditioned pump my question is where is the best place to get one cheers in advance for any help .

Problem is how do you know when you've got a good second hand one .I've found a second hand one think I'm gonna buy it and the kit so I can get the refurb kit and recondition it my self .I'm not too bad with spanner's so may save myself a small fortune

I was told by a specialist to look for one in japan or america where its less humid/damp. I found one in greece and got it for a bargin, its still working now

Now that's a good idea God i love these forums .i may sound stupid but howdo I search for pumps outside of the UK ?

Don't be afraid to have a crack at re-building it yourself. There are kits out there you can buy and plenty of info on how to do it, it will be the cheapest option. Throw 12v across the pump and solenoids to see if they all work first. AndyW08 was a jammy sod getting his pump that cheap!

I think they must work because the light only comes on when the weather is hot guessing the thinner oil is showing the worn out stop up .I have NO problem rebuilding one it doesn't look too hard to do. I just can't have the car off the road that long my plan is to buy a pump garage can fit it. I'll rebuild the old one and sell it to after costs what do you think ?

There is a guy on here Richard Hart I think his name is (correct me if I'm wrong),on here and some of the FB groups who re-builds them and makes new solenoids etc from billet, I'd definitly recommend contacting him for advice and on what preventative measures you can take to stop them going wrong again.

Thanks for that mate I'll defo contact him .I'm shocked how much most places are charging auto torque.want about 1k to.fix it but they.keep my old pump so it's 1.2k if I want it back .Considering the repair kit is 80 quid I think there ripping ppl off same as a lot of other ppl are. How do I run with out the pump won't I get dust anddust into the open lines. Where is it located ?Do I have to remove the rear bumper .I know to run with out ppl say to pop the fuse out by the battery .Thank you for all your help .I've just been heavily stung having a fresh import from the car warehouse in Middlesbrough which was a complete wreak event the company that did the inspection once I had worries about it condemned it so lost £1500 there now I've bought this one and the light comes on sometimes but other than that it's lush so I'm willing to spend the money on it.

AYC failure is very common so wouldn't worry about it, I'm half tempted to do some preventative maintenance on it and rebuilt it/protect even though it works fine atm. The Pump is just behind the rear bumper (on my 8 that is, not 100% on other models) next to the near-side rear wheel, dont need to take the bumper off on mine, cover up all the lines/connectors etc with a few latext gloves and tuck everything out the way as much as possible.
I'd always recommend doing the work yourself if you can, much cheaper and you know what's going on then!

I think I'm still going to buy a spare if there common it can't be a bad thing plus that way if if I happen to damage say a solenoid or something I have a spare. I've found two pumps in Malaysia for 50 quid I read a forum advising buying a pump from a warmcountry with out the salt and water issues the pumps look mint just need to see if he'll post them. Also just found a good Wright up for a diy test which I'm gonna try as soon as I can

Yer all the salt and water from our roads gets thrown all over them, as they are quite exposed. Ok good luck let us know how you get on!

So an update i bought a second hand pump looked a little rough but not too bad bought a repair kit .I set to stripping it my God was it seized i was cutting slices everywhere eventually got it apart only but broke the gear housing which I managed to have welded and with a fair few hours work with the dremmel got it Nice and tidy well happy .Put it all back together pump is sot tight the motor won't turn it gutted so I stripped it down another couple of times but as soon as I tighten the plate that clamps the pressure plate all the gears go tight looks like I wasted 400 notes oh well

Gutted for ya mate! When i stripped mine it pulled the threads out the body after i cut the bolt heads off......so the shank of the bolt was that corroded it pulled the thread out!! Anyway i had to do the same cut slices off get it apart helicoil the body and stuff, rebuilt it and doesnt make pressure! i ended up buying one from greece. Still go the old one here....oh yeah snapped a solenoid so had to buy one of them aswell

Solenoid 's came out nice and tidy. What website did you use to buy one from Greece ? what's the best way to search for them ? Cheer for any help

dont give up on what youve got meric did you try bleeding pump on bench first?
they take a while to bleed try it again

For some the pump is so tightthat the motor won't turn it over it's hard to turn with a screw driver . As soon as I tighten down the body of the pump onto the pressure plate it all go's stiff don't know why .

It was ebay mate, ebay.com thats the world wide one........and i paid £150!!! Fully working, the fella listed it wrong he put it down as 'pump differential' its still working now
