yeah i totally agree with what you are saying, the standard ecu has features available that the PFC doesn't, but that doesn't IMO make it better. it may perhaps make the PFC look like a dinosaur compared to it, but i do a lot of mapping, standard and aftermarket, and i'd still rather use a PFC. works perfectly, easy to scale new injectors, easy to scale load (seconds) dead easy to map, live mapping etc. from my point of view its bang on.
Easier isn't always better tho. I also don't understand why anyone with an Evo 5-9 would go out of their way to spend money on something less capable than their OEM parts.
Ditching the OEM ECU for LinkG4, Vi-Pec, Autronic, MoTeC, GEMS, etc I can understand, but ditching the OEM ECU and spending money on a PowerFC is mad IMHO, it does not do the job of controlling the EFI system any better (or any worse),has less features, costs quite a lot brand new compared to the free OEM ECU and is god knows how old now.
I map OEM and aftermarket ECUs for various types of cars, not just the Evo, and unless the OEM ECU is not mappable then I don't see the point in a PowerFC, other better ECUs are 1 thing, but on all OEM mappable applications I have never seen an advantage, be it with Hondas, Nissans or Mitsubishis, PowerFC offers nothing over the OEM ECUs that make it worth it's price tag.
I'm not saying it's a bad ECU, I have mapped them and they work well, can't complain, do as they say on the tin, just why spend money when what came with your car is just as, if not more capable.
The only reason I can think of why you would want one is if you need a cheap way to run SD and don't want to pay for expensive aftermarket ECUs, but then that's only the D-Jetro that supports SD.
This obviously does not apply to the OP if he got his for a really good price like he said, because the stock 4 ECU was not mappable so they would have had to buy an ECU regardless.
