I want to buy an Evo. Never had one before.
How reliable are they if treated well. I want realistic expectations.
I am looking at the Evo X. I think they look fabulous. Which would you recommend. I've looked at a 330 and a 360 both at about £19k.
All advice appreciated.

They are extremely reliable cars if looked after and not running rediculous amounts of power. Evo X engines are good for around 500 BHP with stock internals & manual gearboxes are generally considered stronger than the SST ones as well.

Will give many years of trouble free ownership if you buy a good one and service it regularly.

Thanks,
Not looking for anything like 500bhp.
Standard fq330 or Fq360 is more than enough.
It will be my everyday car.
Which would u recommend?
Is there much difference in running costs?
Cheers.

Go for the 360. No real reason.... A bit extra power. You wouldn't notice any difference in costs between the 2.

Hi Steve,

I bought a evo X fq-300 sst last week on Thursday and on the same day it developed a fault. AYC service light came on the dash display, yesterday I took it in to Mitsubishi Leeds. To cut a long story short there is a common fault between 30 to 40 thousand miles. My car needs a new AYC pump the cost is £2785 including labour. So just be carful, maybe I've just been unlucky.
Good luck

Oh shit, can imagine how you feel...thanks for the heads up on that.
Did you buy it privately or from dealer? I notice that dealer has a couple of second hand ones in, how did u find the dealership.
Is it just out of warranty?
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I got it from MCR Car specialist in Bristol. They have been very good and are going to pay for it. I can't fault them they have been great all there cars come with a 6 month warranty. I found the car through eBay. I guess I have been very lucky not to buy it private. The car ran out of Mitsubishi warranty around 4 months ago. If you are going to get one then just make sure it has warranty or give mike a call at MCR and get him to find you one his tel is: 07912 748269 if you do go down this route just tell him AMJID asked you to ring. Let me know what you decide.

Hi,

Yes it's my first ever Evo. I have had Subaru Spec c and the Ra versions for the past 8 years, but even though this car has a fault I love it. It stands out from the crowd as it's pear White. The sst box is rapid in sport and super sport mode. If you can get a White one as it will hold it's value better that other colours. If you get the sst version then remember you can not get stupid power out of it as the box can only handle around 350 to 380bhp but do your research. :)

I have not seen a White one. The ones I've seen have been black and look great. They have a couple at Leeds.
Must try & find a White one to view.
What mpg are you getting? From reading comments some seem ok whilst others say dreadful...
How quick do you find the 300? I had been thinking 330 or even 360. It will be my daily car so need to get it right...I am tempted by 360!

I'd say go for the 360. You could buy the 330 and see a 360 whiz past and wish you'd gone for the 360 :)

My 300 is quick enough for me and I want to keep it standard but I have heard that doing a remap does reduce fuel so I am in two minds. Fuel consumption is not that bad around 220 per tank motorway and normal driving (like miss daisy),so I would say around 190 or below, but you don't buy these if your bothered about costs. Expensive to own and run as you have insurance, Tracker, Fuel, Road tax and the list goes on.
