where can i get coil packs from

My e4 has been splutering on boost every now and again and we have narrowed it down to the coils.

However im am finding it difficult to find new ones, can u get updrated ones or just direct replacements?

Where is the best place to get them? Any help would be much appreciated thanks, gav

Indigo gt do them mate not sure if they standard or not. I should think you would find some traders on eBay too give it a go

Whats the advantages of swapping over to toyota coils? Is there much work involved? Im off on the sick at the moment so im free anytime next week. Let me know.

i made my own , sheet alloy, hole cutter , soldering iron ,. takes around a morning to do , and work's perfect .

the hardest part is finding the toyota coils with connectors . as you need to use the 4 connectors that come with the coils .

unless you want to stick to standard coils which is the easiest option :O)

Don't you use the toyota yaris coil packs for this mod, sounds interesting would like to try this mod myself if ever one of my coil packs die, alot cheaper than buying a Mitsubishi one

Had a look, doesn't show ya, how you wire the 4 coils to do, got the part number for the yaris coils so ta for that, do you just split the wires or do you parallel the wires

i did sell a couple of these sets on ebay last year but almost lost money doing it , lack of interest .

its been a while since i made this kit up but think this is how it went .


this is just a quick guide based on my evo 4 please check your own wiring with a volt meter first but all evo coil plugs should be the same :O)

make a base plate from some thin sheet alloy / mark and cut the holes slightly bigger than you need , makes it easier to line up ,

the easiest way to mark out the holes is to find some thin clear plastic sheet/ film . remove the old coils lay the sheet in the recess and mark the holes with a marker then transfer to some alloy sheet .


cut the plugs off the old coils after first checking the wire colours . and connect using crimps but solider joints are always better .

it is worth checking the spark plug before fitting the new coils .
new are always a better option or even colder running for higher boost cars and you should be able to run standard gaps with these coils .

connect A = A + B = B ecu C = C -

NEW COIL

A = RED + BLACK +
B = GREEN + colour ecu
C = WHITE + BLACK -

OLD COILS
A = BLACK + WHITE +
B = BLACK + GREEN OR BLACK + YELLOW ecu
C = BLACK -


you dont use the yellow wire , cut it off the new coils . remember to wire them up as pairs 1+4 to the right and 2+3 to the left


if you are not sure what to do then dont do it , you have been warned

if you use after market new coils then you might find that the coil cover dont fit if you use oe toyota coils then it will . so it will still look standard :O) hope thats enough info .


just to say i didnt copy this kit directly it just gave me the idea to try it my self . respect to the chap that thought of it first :O)

Sorry still lost on the wiring, how have you gone from two connections to four or is there six cables that go to one old Mitsubishi coil pack??? Not had a chance to look at the wiring on mine yet will tomorrow

Just can't work out how two coil packs go into 4 for the timing of the sparks, I must be missing something lol

wire new coil's 1 + 4 as coil 1 rh and coils 2 +3 as coil 2 lh as pairs ,

3 wires of each of the old coils go to 2 pairs of wires from the new coils .

so put 2 new coils together so 6 wires become 3 dont use the yellow 4th wire. so red/black to red/black , green / colour to green /colour and white / black to w/b .


and join them 3 pairs of wires to the 3 wires from one of the old coils

are a good upgrade for a evo but the coil cover wont fit .
