From my experience and many dead Landrover engines, an oil light flicker when hot at idle will very soon turn into a dead engine. It's not a good sign.
You probably wont get it come on when on a run as the oil pressure is higher cos the pump is working harder than it is at idle.

Oh and the oil light only comes on when the oil pressure is dangerously low and I'm told it's usually to late then.

Oh and welcome ! Another southwest owner :)

I'm sure all bottom ends are interchangeable. But get yourself a later one yea as this will add a little value to your car as people do tend to steer clear of the 4 due to this issue but with a later engine it'll possibly be more of the holy grail of evos. Lightweight car now with reliable engine :)

welcome mate.

sorry to hear of probs, my advice get it to someone who knows evos and have them run some checks, could be like already said 'crankwalk' not good at all but not the end of the world, should be looking at ater angine anyways buddy stronger and more reliable.

you dont want to make things worse than they are as the longer it goes on for the more parts you will need to change potentially

I doubt it, it can be one or a number of things. Usually its just general hard use and not sticking to proper service intervals.

+1

And 1.5 bar is about average for a tinkered with evo standard boost is 0.8 bar from memory.

if its not mapped then thats way too high for boost & you need to be checking why its so high, maybe a knackered actuator.

With ref to the crankwalk, IF it has it and its caught in time you can just replace the main bearings. When it gets bad it actually damages the crank and block so scraps it all...

What boost controller have you got? To test actuator put a single piece of hide between turbo and actuator and it should boost way less than 1 bar. That will test that. As for the crank walk from what I gather the main bearings in the middle of the crank wear and the crank walks from side to side
