Why can't we edit our post/topics after a certain time???

As title, why is this? and can it be turned off so we can edit our post's at any time? i.e: editing a for sale advert!

thats a good question i wanted to get my piccys from here the other day and i couldnt edit my thread

The reason for this is that it keeps everything simple.

Allowing posts to be changed once one or more replies have been posted can cause confusion and other such problems.

When Skuff used to be a regular, he would do what was asked by members immediately.

He has been preoccupied for quite some time now and the system has never been changed as I like it and think it is good.

Nick loves it as it means not having to go into the control panel but that's another story!!!

It will be looked at if it is a big problem for you guys, Nick and I are only ever a PM away

What changes do you want made on your ad Dave???

I think it would be helpful to be able to edit threads as now i need to re-do all my for sale threads because we have to charge vat i dont see what the big problem is with being able to edit threads

if u can edit ur threads then u can alter things after u have sold an offending item to someone and they were to complain(and this is just an example)then u could alter the thread to make it look like said item was ok when it wasnt if u know what i mean?

If you kept the edit function then threads like the rolling road day one would be easy to follow cos the names added to the list can be done by the op and if any info about the day changes then the op can edit the first post in stead of having to write it on a new post on say page 17 of 32 and the info being missed by those who are supposed to read it.

But once a post gets edited, it should state this at the bottom of that post, stating time and date when it was last edited.

So when people see this they know the post has been edited and when it was edited.

Experience from many forums has led me to find what seem to be the best middle ground. Not going to change im afraid but if there is an issue with a post you need editing give me a shout.
