To forge properly includes pistons. But you can get away with just rods for more power.
Your always limited by the weakest component....
Cost wise all you do is add cost of forged pistons for full forge. As there is no extra labour for fitting new over used parts

But new pistons means new rings which means rebore £££££

Rod job is a good upgrade, worth it if going to upgrade cams and turbo. 500bhp on rod job

Just get it mapped properly and should be problem free.

If I was thinking about it I'd do pistons too for the extra money. I do t think there's a massive difference in price.

simple!! if it aint broke don't try and fix it. if your happy with the way your car is going and with the power why spend money on it just to get some bragging figures.

When you push power and it breaks it will cost a fortune! A rod job will take a rod bending or snapping out of the equation.

Me and Si had this conversation a couple weeks back. It's a case of once you go for pistons you may answer go the whole hog and full build as the engine will be out the car.

After my first chosen garage mapped the car on standard engine and 15 miles later it bent a rod,it went to CPP for a fully forged fast road engine rebuild and now I feel I haven't anything to worry about when it gets raped Well apart from the standard turbo giving up that is

For me it's would be too much of a gamble, just to find engines out of spec, which a majority will be, I would not be comfortable putting a engine back together knowing the engine is worn, then that leaves you in a prediciment, spend money putting a worn engine back together or spend big money with a full build, as its been mentioned IMO I would leave it alone until you decide on a full build

i'd agree if your going through the expense of pulling most of the engine apart then save the pennies and forge the whole thing and be safe knowing the engine is good for 600+, when you consider a set of pistons cost about £450 which can pretty much be bolted straight in and then machining the pin on the standard ones to fit (which will cost machine time and labour) I bet theres really not too much difference, getting the block out to be honed, decked washed etc it again a bit of a piece on mine that its all straight with fresh surfaces ready to take the extra power
