Thanks a lot for the advice. I think having looked around I will go for the V or VI. Is there really much difference between the 2?

In terms of insurance, I am getting quoted around 2k at the moment from comparison sites for a V or VI. Need to wait for a few weeks until I am 27 and the 3rd anniversary of my ban comes around which should make quite a difference. As long as it comes in under 1500 I will be happy really

HAHA I hope I haven't started a family feud or anything!!! I thought the V and VI were pretty similar in terms of what I am after. Just want something that won't constantly be a burden in terms of going wrong. I only do 5k a year and won't be thrashing it everywhere I go.

They are very similar, i definitely wouldnd pic one over the other. but your gonna get a better V for your money so if i was tou id stick to just V's

although it might be worth trying to find a good ralliart VI as the insurance will be less as its not classed as an import. But you may find the prices to buy are a bit more.

Take the comparison sites with a pinch of salt. None of them were anywhere near to the companies I tried when I phoned them.

Can't warrant the extra money for the RS really. What do I need to watch out for when buying one then? I now the usual stuff from pulsars, ie compression test, smoke from boosting and off boost?
I am prepared to have a few things done when I buy it to improve reliability, but the last thing I want to do is buy one which turns out to need a new clutch, flywheel, turbo etc

I found that too. I was quoted 2k for a IV from a company called good girl uk! (lol) I then went on to their website and got it down to 1300 even without a cat 1 alarm which I though was compulsory with insurance companies for imports.

I couldn't warrant the extra money for the RS either. They are very basic if standard!

The main thing is rust. Watching out for "freshly under sealed" cars as it could be a last measure to hide something. Lots and lots of info if you google or search on here.

The stuff you have mentioned is down to you checking service history etc, but it's still a lottery with performance cars so there's no guarantee that those kind of things could still break.

I know how to check for a turbo. but the likes of the clutch and the fly wheel could have been replaced the day before or about to go in the next mile and drive exactly the same. Ideally I would love to buy one from someone on here or from a dealer so I will get some form of warranty (dealer) but then will pay a premium for it.

My budget is 5k (ish) not worried about bodywork in terms of dents as a good mate of mine is exceptional with bodywork.

Do you think I will get a good one for that? Like I said before, I am not interested in one that has been heavily modified and running a huge spec.
I have seen a few on piston heads for just over 5k which we all know is 5k when you wave cash in front of someones face.

5k will get you a pretty awesome IV, nice V and a ok-ropy VI in today's market from what I've seen.

We have a IV and VI TME and they're almost the same to insure, about 700 for me 25 n mrs 22 with 6 ncb.

Excellent then. My insurance will be a bit more obviously but I know that already. Does anyone know of any for sale at the moment?

There are quite a few on "the othe forum"

Just seen a few on there. There are quite a few "mobile phone" traders on ebay selling them. There is however one that guarantees the ayc pump has been serviced and guarantees it for 12 months!!!

Stay away mate, google them. They have some really nice cars but they aren't what they seem.

The cars they tend to have are not great examples and overpriced.
