Hi everyone, now going through the process of buying my first evo. my budget allows for an evo 7/8. im looking at maybe an FQ300.

ive heard rumours that evos are weekend/sunny days cars and have a tendancy to go bang in the engine after a short time or a few hard runs.... i need mine as a daily runner too, are evo's reliable enough for this? i dont want mine to be a weekend toy. would an evo be ideal for me?

what things should i be looking out for when perchasing?

should i expect a hefty insurance bill at the age of 23 and only one years no claims? (dont laugh)

all help and advice is welcome guys, im new to evos but used to fast jap cars.

thanks for your advice. Dan

Evos are indeed reliable enough for a daily motor. They do need to be maintained well and often though (every 4.5k miles) and will drink petrol like its going out of fashion.

And yes expect to be bent over for insurance at 23 ;)

Must of been a scooby driver that you heard that from.. As long as you look after it, and service it every 4500 miles you shouldn't have any troubles.. The ones that go pop are the ones that have been ragged about and not looked after mainly, but like anything in life any car can break, even pampered ones. I heard that the evo 260 is the cheapest to insure, and if your looking at more power in the future, its easy enough to get to 400bhp/400lbs for a little over £1k

haha, cheers for the rapid replies, sorry to say fellas, im not a scooby owner, never have been lol.

ive mainly had my hand in mr2's, the turbo sort, the ones that give evos a run for there money. dont shoot me for saying that lol.

should i expect my insurance to be over £1500?

ive got my eye on a 7 in red, 40k miles, FQ300. it has full service history so can check its been done every 4500k miles. new clutch and brakes too. minimal tuning so doubt its been thrashed.

do you know of any others for sale i should look at before taking this one further?

thanks

Fairly standard. But thinks like in induction kit and wheels ( if you replace them with non std again) wont help. Flaps wont make any difference (i would think hard about mentioning them ;)v) and tints may make a difference.

At 23 i would be getting one totally standard and wait till 25 for mods.

Granted, this thread is a little old but the highlighted statement made me laugh so much that I decided to bring it back;)

I thought I was just getting the snydie comments:eek:
Honestly, since Bigzy got us the 6, everybody has had mixed commets to put forward.
You really know who the jealous ones are as soon as you pull up:mad:

Bigzy has had many nice cars over the past 4 years or so but the the amount of conversations that have kicked off recently that start with; is that an evo? and then continue with a list of faults:mad:

hi m8 welcome to the forum, yes they are very relible as i use mine as a everyday runner,
as for the insurance thats if anybody will touch u being only 23 they prefer 25+ drivers, but i'm sure some1 will insure it 4 u but i think it may b a little more than £1500, u may be able 2 get it for £1500+ third party only
