Default hello there

hi ppl,

im mitch from stafford
i came across this site coz im lookin to buy an evo X 300 gsr if it can fit my sons pram in the boot.

did order a nissan GTR before they were released but was let down by nissan so cancelled
drove EVO X FQ 330 on wednesday and was impressed and that was with sst box.

previously had a 350z in azure blue with GT pack but that was sold august 2008, due to cracked suspension rear passenger side. been driving wifes 1 series since then

need a new car with some room in it, love the new m3 and 335i coupe but mite be better if i stick to 4 door. considered
an audi rs4- want somethin newer for the cash
a4 3.0tdi new shape- prestige cars should have autos but audis CVT box sucks ass
merc c class 320 cdi- crappy engine, power and economy compared
jag xf 3.0 diesel s- superb but slightly over budget

where can i ask general questions bout transmission etc and some mods running costs? i will do a search first though

Exclamation Avoid the X if you can

Hi buddy and welcome to our little Forum!!!

I would like to start off by saying that the X is a great choice but as a specialist in all things Evo, I must admit that I am very disappointed with the X

My advice is that you go for a good clean IX. It is a much better car and WILL put a smile on your face.

The X has too many problems that started rearing their heads but the credit crunch hit Mitsi around the time of it's launch, which meant dealing with the issues would be costly as well as the set back of missing a launch date to coincide in Japan with the new Impreza.

What did they decide to do at this juncture; "Let's push it through anyway"

The most common problem at the moment and one that they knew would come was the SLOW DOWN warning that is triggered by the transmission fluids over heating. The second and most expensive of the lot, for the moment, is that the chain is susceptible to stretching when the car is driven hard and they anticipate a half life of 22,000 miles, which will fall out of the warranty bracket.

The X may well become a car that is hard to sell on at a price that is realistic when compared to the generalised depreciation on it's predecessors.

They have really put their foot in it and it is a shame that a GIANT has become a gimp in the process, for the moment anyway.

Hope I have been of help buddy.

Any further advice needed, you know where we are.

El

thanks for advice but
only reason i considered the x was because of the longer service intervals. defo dont have time to be servicing as regular as the IX does and it'l cost aswell, cousin had an fq300 IX and was servicing 3 times per yr.
wifes cousins have 2 evo IX and are admins in cyprus evo club and heavily modded was there last yr and he snapped his clutch and gearbox, he had couple spares and fitted them in few hrs.

would the manual x be better bet? worried about the 'droning noise' on long trips on motorways

I would personally give the X a miss as I have explained. If the X was as heavily modded as the IX then you would face a larger bill altogether. It is far newer and the parts are still only making their way to the market. The service intervals may be less but that is all the car has going for it.

The thing with the IX is that you could carry out most of the services yourself and save a hell of a lot of money if you wanted to.
As long as you had only the engine oil and filter done at a respectable garage and had the service book stamped, but did all the rest yourself and kept the receipts for the parts and the fluids then you would still have a full service history of sorts.

When it comes to buying a used Evo the majority of people who are clued up, judge the car by how it feels to drive and what condition it is in as well as how the owner presents himself. As long as these all pan out and there are receipts to prove the car has been well maintained and the MOT's pan out with the odometer readings (on the older models) then it is enough to make a decision.

Just out of interest, what have you cousins in Cyprus advised???

At the end of the day, you will arrive at a conclusion that you are happy with, we are only here to give you our opinion and try to help you as much as possible along the way.

I hope you find the car you are looking for and that it looks after your pocket which is the main thing buddy.

Keep us posted on what you go for and how you get on.

El
