loss of boost

hi guys

since i have had my 8 when ever i put the boot down and hit boost there is a huge jult round about 4-5 grand its as if the car cuts out then kicks back in to life and spits a big blue flame out the pipe.

now as much as that can look quite good friends of mine say they can smell petrol really badly when they are following me.

any 1 have any ideas what could be going wrong ?

Hi Rich,
your car is over fuelling buddy. This is not good for the engine at all. You need to take out the plugs and see if they are wet. Do you have uprated injectors or has the car been re-mapped?

Check your plugs first thing in the morning. Take them out and keep them in order of 1 to 4, 1 is from the left hand side onwards. Check if they are blackened too.

For you, it will be best to do it first thing in the morning. tart the car and let it warm up for five minutes or so. Switch it off then take the plugs out.

Let me know what each of them are like and I will advise you further buddy.

ok i have INP-401 injectors that i think are standerd ones.

as for a remap im not sure the dealer i got the car from didnt say anything about having a remap but its on my to do list when i have the pennys.

i will check the plugs and up date you asap

when you accelerate hard and it does this, does it feel like 'hitting a brick wall'? very harsh loss of power, then returns again?

accelerate 3/4 throttle and everything is fine?

very common fault on evos mate, its hitting the fuel cut from overboosting.

do you have a boost gauge to monitor what boost its hitting when doing this?

(providing you haven't done any recent mods) then the probable cause is a faulty actuator......its either rusty and seized or the diaphragm inside is split.

to test for a split diaphragm you need to pull the pipe off the actuator, find a length of pipe - put this back on to the actuator and see if you can blow down the pipe, if you can then you need a new actuator.

if not, attach the pipe to a pump with gauge and see what pressure the actuator moves at (should be about 0.8bar)



other possible common cause is a split or loose boost pipe somewhere.

where would i find this actuator and wot does it look like.

it will be attached to the turbo, follow this rod down and it will go into a round part with one pipe attached, this is the actuator and that is the pipe you will need to pull off to attach a longer one to blow down.

ok i found the actuator and have noticed that the pipe that comes off it goes in to a T pice and then in to the turbo but there is still one end that is open with no pipe attached as shown in pic is this normal or should this be a direct pipe in to the actuator

that'll be the problem right there.

there will be a pipe coming off the boost solenoid which should be attached there.

ok well my evo dont have 1 its missing

added pipe to tee pice tolded back and cabled tied closed car feels a lot better now its not running 2 bar of boost

Why does you car not have a boost solenoid???
You do not want to bung that vacuum pipe. It is supposed to go to to the connection.

Have you had a good look around the under side of the air box??? It might well have been removed or dropped off some how.

Bunging it off will improve boost but will give your engine death!!!

Have a good look, the solenoid will have a a 2 pin plug on it.

You really need to do this properly buddy.

solenoid not there is missing found wiring plug but no boost solenoid. u don't have 1 i can retreive from you? or am i jus gonna have to bite the bullet and buy 1 at £50
